research questions
why was the first freedom rides so important?
How did the freedom rides help the civil rights cause?
What do the freedom rides say about our society at the time?
what does the fact that African Americans did not have freedom say about our society?
What was different between each of the freedom rides? as in differences each made.
what brought thousands of people to start going on freedom rides after the first crew?

Human rights first assignment
1. I am interested in U.S human rights history such as Rosa Parks, The freedom rides, womens and African American right to vote.
2. http://www.core-online.org/History/freedom%20rides.htm
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/USAfreedomR.htm
http://www.freedomridersfoundation.org/
3. How many people ended up going on the freedom rides?
The original freedom riders were all beaten, and never got any credit what happened to them?
There are 932 hate groups in the US.

Maus II
A common theme i see to be coming up in this book is the authors father being very sly and saving many people around him. First he was the only one who survived the first shipment of prisoners because he used his language skills and his sneaky skills of connecting with this Pole and his humanity. Then By Vlad getting a job as a Tinman he was able to contact his wife and keep her strong enough to not take her own life. In the meantime he had to yell at his wife to not give up any food, but Vlad is seen giving food away many times sometimes to people he knows is going to die so there was not point to do so, this shows he really has a kind soul. Finally Vlad gets a job as a shoemaker and eventually gets his wife transfered to a new camp right next to him. The obvious theme here is that Vlad is a pure alpha male looking out for as many of his own kind as possible.

Congo
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/africa/10/01/congo.atrocities.un.report/index.html?iref=allsearch
The UN has recently filed a report concerning the problems with human rights in the Congo. There have been a series of killings and rapes over a long and terrible ten year period. "Tens of thousands of people were killed, and numerous others were raped, mutilated or otherwise victimized during the decade." This report includes an accusation about armed Rwandan forces committing serious human rights violations inside the Congo.

In the Congo there is an extreme amount of violations towards women including: Beating, Kidnapping, even killing. That it why there needs to be safe houses such as the Panzi Clinic, a remarkable facility in eastern Congo that manages, under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, to accommodate a small number of women who have survived excruciating acts of gender violence.

Response to reading.
Europeans were fascinated by the people living in Africa they did not know much but they were eager to know more so they eventually traveled down to what is now known as the Congo with many supplies to be traded. These Europeans ended up trading an extreme amount with Africans, but not for their goods it was a slave trade.Meanwhile the Africans thought that these Europeans with chalky skin were gods and possibly cannibals so they did not want to be traded, and then maybe eaten. The first chapter is mostly about Henry Stanly, After giving a job to a boy with no father and a woman dressed up as a man, he left the navy. He ended up becoming very interested in the project Africa, like many famous explorers were. Stanely ended up meeting Dr. Livingstone and traveled to Africa and gained much acclaim.
Were there groups formed that questioned the ethics of slavery back then?
How would the Arabs obtain all these slaves, with trade, or by force?

Interesting memories
I have been alive for roughly seventeen years and there has been an extreme amount of news all those years but out of all of it i remember only a few more then others. I remember when I was in third grade on September 11th nearing the end of school we had a tv in our school room watching hte news and a clip of two buildings right next to each other had enormous amounts of smoke pouring out of them. Suprisingly i remember staying quite calm throughout this whole ordeal because i really had no idea what was going on, a few years later once i bacame much more mature and self aware i realized what had actually taken place and in this moment in time it ment much more. Another huge even i was alive for was Hurricane Katrina happened while i was at Forsyth in sixth grade, i do not remember about hearing anything at school but i do remember when i got home me and my brother sat down with our parents while they explained to us over and over that we will remember this for the rest of our lives and how terrifying a day this was and we will be telling our kids one day what happened and its importance, then they talked all night about how thankful we should be for not living down in Louisiana and how we should make a service trip down, but we never did because dad is always busy and it was to dangerous for us. Finally the third and least vivid memory of a large news even was the comet HAILBOPP but since this happened when i was four i needed a little help remembering. I lived in Michigan at the time and this comet was slowly moving through the sky and it only was going to come around once in my lifetime so i was always marveling at its awesomeness, it was the largest brightest thing in the sky i had ever witnessed, it took a couple weeks to pass so i saw it a couple times but all i remember is how large and cool it was.
From my mothers point of view she clearly remembers large news events that happened before i was a bleep in their mind such as president Kennedy being assassinated. She was five years old when it happened and she remembers her mother crying, and she told her what had happened, both her parents were very depressed about this because they had both adored this president. Next what she remembered was the moonwalk, she recalled this most because her family had just bought a TV for the occasion, it was a small black and white portable. She remembers the thrill of watching the moonwalk and looking at the moon at the same time a realizing that there was actually someone up there walking around, but she was also extremely confused of how we had managed this huge feat. She remembers many things but for the third she chose the election of a black president, obviously this was more recent and she was so satisfied of how far our country has come ethically to elect a black president but still realizes that we have much more to do before we are perfect, also she said it was one of the few times she had thought that voting accomplished something.
